Jay Cutler (with Daisy and Capone) and Brandan Fokken pitch on “Shark Tank.” / ABC

Jay Cutler appeared on ABC’s Shark Tank today to try to win investors for Jay’s Pet Butter. The four-time Mr. Olympia appeared with his dogs, Daisy and Capone, and his business partner, pro physique competitor and gym owner Brandan Fokken. They pitched the sharks (including Mark Cuban and Daymond John) a gourmet, canine peanut butter. There are currently four flavors of Jay’s Pet Butter, with ingredients like sweet potatoes, blueberries, glucosamine, and carob seeds. “Dog dad” Cutler is almost as known for his keen business acumen as his legendary bodybuilding career.

Cutler and Fokken were looking for $50,000 for a 10% stake in their company. They explained that Jay’s Pet Butter had grossed only $39,000 in its first 10 months, but they were confident, with supply problems behind them and Cutler’s huge social media following, it would sell well going forward. The first four sharks passed. The fifth, Mr. Wonderful, offered $50,000 in exchange for a $1 per jar royalty in perpetuity. Cutler and Fokken declined. So, they didn’t get a deal, but they did gain some valuable publicity for Jay’s Pet Butter.

Jay Cutler is not the first professional bodybuilder to appear on Shark Tank.

◼️ Pro bodybuilder/powerlifter Stan Efferding raised a 600-pound deadlift and $50,000 for a 1/3 stake in The Kooler, a shaker bottle cooler.

◼️ Pro bodybuilder Steve Kuclo and his then-wife, pro bikini competitor Amanda Latona, raised $250,000 for a 1/3 stake in BootyQueen Apparel.

(It looks like neither product is still for sale.)
